Killeen Daily Herald
A 43-year-old Killeen man tried to strangle and suffocate a Killeen woman with a blanket, a headband and a cell phone Monday, according to Killeen police. A woman reported that Juan Carlos Jimenezsantos, 43, grabbed anything he could to harm her Monday, according to an arrest affidavit. Jimenezsantos became enraged and attacked the victim during an argument.
Jimenezsantos' first weapon was a headband, which he used to strangle the woman, the affidavit stated. When the headband broke, he tried to strangle her with his hands. He then smothered the victim's face with a blanket.
When the woman stopped breathing, Jimenezsantos poured water down her nose and throat. The attack ended when he shoved the woman's cell phone into her mouth for a "period of time," according to the affidavit.
Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin set bond at $100,000 on a charge of assault on a family member impeding breathing or circulation.
Jimenezsantos was charged under a new Texas law that raises assault involving a family member from a misdemeanor to a felony if an effort is made to impede breathing.
