Josh Delaney tossed a pair of touchdown passes and the Union Grove eighth-grade Grizzlies capped a perfect season with a 26-0 win over Smith in the KISD eighth-grade championship game Tuesday at Buckley Stadium.
It was the second consecutive perfect season for the players, who also were unbeaten in seventh grade.
Delaney tossed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Tony Barnes and a 40-yarder to Damaria Moon. Brandon Cook had a 5-yard TD run.
The Grizzlies defense was dominating throughout as it has been all year and gave the Grizzlies offense time to recover from a slow start. Union Grove (9-0) forced four Smith turnovers. Linebacker Joseph Alaniz and Tony Thomas each intercepted a Leopard pass in the first half. Strong safety Garrett Gaskamp had an electrifying interception in the third quarter that was returned for a Grizzlies score, shifting the momentum to Union Grove.

The Grizzlies (9-0) dominated from the start, recovering a Smith fumble and quickly marching down the field for a score on their way to a 30-0 halftime lead.
Smith was nearly perfect all night and had plenty of time to throw behind the excellent blocking of offensive linemen Michael Cassell, TJ Piekarski, Stephen Crowder, Dominic Holt, Korey St. Marie and CJ Bobbitt. Running back Bryan Thomas scored a touchdown and 2-point conversion. Slotback Thai Goodwin added another touchdown and 2-point conversion. Matthews contributed two more two-point conversions up the middle. Receiver Brandon Walls hauled in a 40-yard pass late in the game and was tackled at the 4-yard line.
The Grizzlies defense recovered four fumbles and ran one of them back for a touchdown. Standouts were Michael Woods (sack, two 2 tackles for loss), Yves Bottex (sack, fumble recovery and 1.5 TFL), Micheal Williams (2.5 TFL, three fumble recoveries, one for a touchdown), Tristyn Anderson (1/2 TFL), Chris Lewis (two sacks, one TFL) and Danyawn Pettus (sack).
