USBC Hall of Fame – Bowlers Journal International reports that former PBA Senior Tour star John Handegard and long-time Women's International Bowling Congress Sergeant-at-Arms Betty Barnes have been elected to the USBC Hall of Fame by USBC's Hall Committee.
They will be inducted at a special outdoor ceremony May 12 at the International Bowling Campus along with those elected from the national superior performance ballots.
PBA on ESPN - This Sunday's ESPN telecast of the PBA Chameleon and Women's Series Chameleon Championships has been moved from noon to 1:30 p.m. due to a Sports Center NASCAR Sprint Cup special preceding the PBA Tour telecast.
The Lumber Liquidators PBA Tour's scheduled tournament in Medford, Ore., Jan. 4-10, has become a casualty of the national economic slump.
The Don and Paula Carter Mixed Doubles will be moved to Brunswick Zone-Wheat Ridge in Wheat Ridge, Colo., Feb. 15-21, where it will replace the previously announced Gemini Championship.
The cancellation also will mean a minor re-scheduling of the PBA Tour's 2009-10 ESPN television schedule. The tape-delayed finals of the Pepsi Red, White and Blue Open presented by the United States Bowling Congress will be moved from Jan. 3 to Medford's Jan. 10 date. Schreyer said a decision on the Jan. 3 air date will be made after discussions with ESPN.
900 Again and Again - Bowlers from Nevada and New Jersey shot the latest USBC-certified 900 series three days apart recently. Chris Aker, a 47-year-old lefty from Winnemucca, Nev., connected for his trio of 300 games on Oct. 30. Andrew Teall, a 24-year-old righty from Medford, N.J., matched that on Nov. 2. There now have been 15 perfect USBC series since Jeremy Sonenfeld rolled the first one almost 13 years ago in Lincoln, Neb. Some predicted at the time that there would be one 900 per year, so those predictions now seem a bit conservative. There has never been a 900 on Sport Bowling conditions.
High School Bowling – High school bowling continues to grow and there are several new schools around the state and tremendous growth in San Antonio. Not all districts have reported but there are currently 35 districts and 176 schools participating.
A total of 107 of the schools are 5A classification while 110 are needed to meet UIL requirements.
Association Awards Banquet – The Greater Killeen-Fort Hood USBC Association will host their annual awards banquet and Hall of Fame induction on Dec. 5 at the VFW in Harker Heights. Tickets are still available at $10 each which includes a barbecue dinner catered by Big Hoss.
See you on the lanes.
