Killeen Daily HeraldHARKER HEIGHTS – The City Council will discuss contractors' bid proposals for the city's new animal shelter at a 3 p.m. workshop today.
The city sent out construction contractor bids for its new animal shelter, which was designed by architect Michael Marrs, on Oct. 2.
The shelter will replace the current animal shelter on Harley Drive and move the facility to the corner of Clore Road and Indian Trail.
Marrs' design allows for a lot more space for the animals, including 31 dog kennels and a room with 40 cat cages, according to the site plans.
Other major differences between the Harley Drive shelter and the new shelter will be a sally port with outside kennels to leave animals at night or during the weekend, a larger quarantine area, a procedure area, an incinerator, a room with additional cat cages, offices, a lobby, a conference room and a walking area for dogs, according to the site plans.
The City Council will also discuss the following:
A presentation regarding the proposed amendment to the city's code of ordinances and the international plumbing codes, which deal with residential irrigation backflow preventers.
A presentation regarding the newly annexed area sanitary sewer master plan.
A presentation regarding the Cedar Knob pump station emergency standby generator at the Ridge.
The City Council meets in the Kitty Young Council Chambers at City Hall, 305 Miller's Crossing.
